It is with great regret that we note the passing of the spouse of our Faithful Navigator, Jim Boyd. His lovely wife, Cathy Hooper Boyd, 68, of Chapel Hill, died Monday, November 17, 2014 at home after a lengthy illness.

Cathy Boyd was born January 12, 1946, to the late Walter and Marian Roth Hooper in Staten Island, NY, she has resided in North Carolina for over 40 years. Cathy was a travel agent for over 10 years.

A wake and viewing with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov 20th, at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home located at 1113 West Main St., Durham. A vigil service will follow at 7 p.m. Cathy’s Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Chapel Hill. Donations may be made to the SPCA in Cathy’s memory. Veterans Day at our School

The St. Thomas More School is having a Veterans Day event on Tuesday.  Here is what is going on…

School Kids Veterans Day 2013Armed Forces personnel are invited to participate in and be honored at a ceremony at the school on Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11th.
Veterans, servicemen, servicewomen, active duty personnel, ROTC students, current and former National Guard personnel are invited.
Guests are asked to arrive at the school between 7:15 and 7:30 a.m. on the 11th.  There will be a brief ceremony indoors followed by a flag raising ceremony outside (weather permitting), then coffee and light refreshments.  It should be over by 8:30 a.m., although a few teachers may be requesting some participants to visit their classrooms.
St. Thomas More School is located on Fordham Boulevard (NC 15-501) in Chapel Hill.  The school address is 920 Carmichael St, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.  Map

Watch for our wicker baskets and smiling Knights

On Veterans Day weekend, we honor our veterans.  There is a special group of living veterans now in military hospitals.  They are  hospitalized amputees at nearby Camp Lejeune and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.

These men and women are now undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for their war injuries and they will be there over the Christmas holiday period.  Most do not have funds to travel to their homes for the holidays.  Our mission is to help send them home to be with their families.

Knights at St. Thomas More Church will collect donations after each mass on Saturday, November 8th and Sunday, November 9th. Please be generous.

The Desoto Province Knights are from our churches in North and South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico.  All donations are tax deductible.  Make your checks payable to the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  Add a notation that the check is for the Wounded Warriors Amputee Project.  The Military Order of the Purple Heart will provide you with a card of thanks and receipt for your gift.
